Chile ranks highest in percentage of GDP expenditures associated with natural disasters among OECD countries (OECD, 2012). Our research in this area seeks to provide the necessary tools to characterize the impact of disasters on physical and social systems using an integrated conceptual framework for risk analysis and the necessary evaluation of mitigation options, and thus mobilize political actors to invest in planning and mitigation with the aim of enhancing society’s resilience in the medium term.
